Recently, MoDA was invited to speak at a D.Talks event at the Glenbow Museum entitled, “Iconomy”. The main subject of the discussion was the repurposing of the Calgary Board of Education building, an iconic piece of 1960’s Calgary Architecture done in the Brutalist style. Our lecture was centered on an architectural exploration that transformed the existing building into Calgary’s new Museum of Contemporary Art. We called it, Designing the Void. It truly was a great evening and a great discussion. We hope to see you at the next D.Talks event!

Modern Office of Design + Architecture (MoDA) has turned a new page and we’re excited to share the latest news of our growing firm with our past, present and future clients. As of April 1st, 2013 MoDA celebrates the arrival of our newest partner Ben Klumper, previously an associate and Director of Architecture at the reputable Calgary firm Mckinley Burkart. Ben brings considerable technical and construction expertise, as well as an incredible eye and passion for design. Ben’s impressive portfolio consists of medium to large scale projects, ranging from Multi-Family to Mid-Rise Commercial buildings.
We’d also like to celebrate the appointment of both Gary Couzens and Paul Stady as Associates. Both individuals help round out our senior management team and contribute to the depth and breadth of our full service architectural firm.
Lastly, for the past 6 months we’ve been working behind closed doors consuming vast amounts of caffeine as we re-branded MoDA. Our intent is two-fold: to consolidate the individual visions of the various partners, and to firmly entrench our presence both here in Calgary and abroad as a preeminent architectural practice that grounds itself in critical architectural discourse, all the while working closely with our clients needs, budget and schedule.
Quite simply, our goal is to become the leading Architecture firm here in Calgary. We’ve worked hard at putting the right team together, re-branding and building a solid portfolio of clients…the runway is set and we’re ready for take off.
